Time to be an angel again for a youth transitioning out of foster care. The Angel Tree is up again. Please help fill a stocking to let a young person know that they are valued.
For the last 12 years or so, LCC has had a proud history of supporting Ready For Life Pinellas (RFL) by taking one or more angel cards off the tree and buying gift cards for young adults who are transitioning from foster care to adulthood, preventing homelessness and helping them achieve their goals.
This Sunday, our Angel Tree will once again be up near the fountain, and as usual, the need is great. Perhaps this year the need is even greater with the higher prices of food and utilities that our young people must deal with as they learn how to take care of themselves and others.
The Bible word for “angel” really means “messenger for God,” and we think that perfectly describes those of you who take an angel card off the tree. Because as you provide gift cards for these young adults, you are truly revealing God’s message of love and hope to them. Many of them might feel that society has forgotten them, but God certainly hasn’t, and your support of this program will prove to them that there is indeed good in this world.
According to their website, last year RFL served 485 young adults, an increase of 40% over the previous year. Some of the services they provide include education and mentoring, counseling and assistance with finding employment.
For the past ten years, LCC has supported RFL by offering Angels to pick up from the Angel Christmas Tree and purchasing the requested gifts. Our church also provides 50 stockings for the youth. Kate Linde will give a Temple Talk at both services this Sunday, giving us more information on the program and the needs that LCC can help fill.
Angels will be available starting this Sunday, November 23, and the gifts will need to be returned to the church by December 7 at the latest (preferably sooner) so that we can bless them in our services on that day.
So please consider how you can be an angel to young adults in our community who really could use a break in life. Our church as a great track record of generosity, and we hope this year will be no different. Thanks in advance for your kindness.
