Give your neighbor a fish, and they’ll eat for a day. Give your neighbors a community fish farm, and they’ll eat for a lifetime. A fish farm begins with a pond, training and a few fast-growing fish like tilapia. The ELCA Good Gifts Community Fish Farm project provides a sustainable, long-term source of food and income for communities. Priced around $250, these farms help fight hunger by empowering communities with skills and resources to raise their own food.
LCC is making Community Fish Farms the focus of our Lenten Outreach Campaign. Your donations support the construction of a pond, fish stocking and training for community members to maintain the farm.
There are many ways to give. There is a Fish Bowl (collection bank) in the narthex. You can also donate online via our church website by clicking the button below. We are looking for any and all donations, but to help you decide, $250 buys a whole farm, and $50 buys 1/5 of a fish farm. We will pool our donations so we can contribute as many fish farms as possible. This year, we’re fishing for donations to purchase 10 farms (did you see what I did there?) for a goal of at least $2,500. Jesus calls us to be fishers for people, and what better way to do that than to help them feed themselves? Please give as generously as you can.
