And God gave some to be teachers, and some to be prophets, and some to be…BEEKEEPERS?
Our own Barbara Fredericks has created a honey of a ministry for the Caring Ministries Team here at LCC. Her honey, known as HEAVENLY HONEY, is available for a donation of $10 only at LCC. Proceeds from the sale of the honey are donated to LCC Caring Ministries. Barbara has been beekeeping for a couple years and is quite knowledgeable about bees, their habits and lifecycle.
Some interesting facts you may not bee familiar with:
The practice of beekeeping dates back at least 4,500 years
A queen bee may lay up to 1500 eggs per day
In their 6-8 week lifespan, a worker bee will fly the equivalent distance of 1 ½ times the circumference of the Earth
A single bee will produce only about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime
Male bees (drones) die after mating and any remaining drones are kicked out of the hive as winter approaches
Human Worker Bees
Barb harvests her honey semiannually, and the next harvest, to which her church family and friends are invited to help, will be on September 16. At the last harvest, over 200 bottles (200 pounds!) were completed.
We are blessed by Barb, her knowledge and contribution.
