Holy Week, a Special Time

This year, Holy Week begins on April 14 with our Palm Sunday celebrations: Traditional Worship at 9 AM, followed by the Palm Sunday Fair from 10-10:45, and the our Family Worship at 10:45. These will be fun, festive opportunities to celebrate our Lord.

The mood shifts, though, as the week progresses and we move into Maundy Thursday on April 17. Named to recall our Lord’s commandment that we love one another as he loved us, the day will feature worship at 7 PM. This will include Holy Communion, of course, but this will be a very special Communion for one young lady, Zosia Kay, who will receive the Lord’s Supper for the first time that night, surrounded by her family. The service will also include handwashing to remember how Jesus washed his disciples feet, and the Stripping of the Altar at the end, after which we depart in silence as we think about what we’ve experienced.

The next day is Good Friday, April 18, and this year we will have just one worship service at 7 PM. We will gather in silence and prayerfully recall our Lord’s suffering and death for us.

On April 19, which is Holy Saturday, we have no church services. This is intentional as it commemorates the time our Lord spent before his resurrection. You are invited to spend this time with your family at home.

But then on Sunday, April 20, we gather for the biggest celebration of all: EASTER! As has become our custom, we will gather at 7 AM on the Point for an outdoor celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. We will break the darkness of the tomb with the lighting of an Easter candle, hear the joyous proclamation of our Lord’s resurrection, and worship him with music from some of our Family Worship Praise Band members.

Stick around afterwards for an Easter Breakfast on the coffee patio and in the narthex at 8 AM. Or, if you’re not attending the Sunrise Service, come early for the breakfast and stick around for the 9 AM Festival Worship. This lively service will feature the LCC Bells and a brass quartet.

At 10:45, we will then have our Family Worship Easter Eggstravaganza, which will feature the very popular Easter Egg Hunt for the kids, as well as joyous music and lots of fun.

So mark your calendars. Come to celebrate, come to be fed, come to remember, and come to celebrate again. Just come!
